The International Image Interoperability Framework (IIIF) has become an important standard for cultural heritage institutions worldwide, enabling them to present, share, and reuse digital collections in innovative ways. By supporting interoperability, IIIF provides a common language for images and audiovisual resources, making it easier for libraries, archives, and museums to collaborate, enhance access, and create new tools for research and engagement.
In this lecture, Martin Kalfatovic, Managing Director of the IIIF Consortium, will introduce the IIIF framework and present inspiring examples of how cultural heritage organisations are incorporating IIIF-based collections and applications into their everyday practices. The presentation will also highlight the opportunities IIIF creates for building sustainable digital infrastructures and for developing user-focused services.
Following the lecture, there will be an open discussion with the audience on how IIIF might be implemented and expanded within the Estonian and wider European cultural heritage context.
The event is open to all researchers, professionals, and students interested in the possibilities of IIIF for the cultural heritage sector. No registration is required.
